In 2021, IHP (Institut Henri Poincaré) will become "Maison des maths", a new structure specialized in mathematics and aiming for showing a friendlier aspect of maths and encouraging dialogues. For this new identity, a communication strategy has to be made. The project was to define this strategy and give the expertise of an art director.
Mathematics gathers a multitude of signs and forms understandable by the whole world. Showing a friendlier aspect of maths is showing the simplicity in it. That's why the letters are less complex by using simple geometrical forms. The logo can change and the letters can be exchanged with the newly created letters. It's a way to show the diversity in mathematics. The identity aims to show simplicity by a clean graphic design yet full of impact. Color speaking, they are bright and illustrate the dynamism of the location.
The graphic design uses the newly designed letters for the identity of Maison des maths. The logo is used as a signature.
Mathematics is universal, astonishing, and fascinating. Completely different objects may have an unexpected connexion through mathematics. The communication strategy takes its inspiration from this idea and the visual consists of associating two distinct elements with a mathematical common point. For example, the snail and the stairs have a connexion by the Fibonacci sequence in their helix.
